The History of Vampires
Vampires were not originally the horrific, murderous creatures that usually springs to one's mind when the word is mentioned. They were originally created to protect mankind, not to kill it. Not all of the creatures that came through the breaches were harmless, some craved death and destruction. These are what were called 'demons'. The human race was slaughtered like cattle, they were desperate for a reprieve. There were not really that many demons, but they were much, much stronger than the humans who crumbled like dirt clods when touched. One man, named Zan, set out on a journey to find a way to defend his village from this onslaught.
After a good few years of searching he came across something powerful that was willing to give him the strength to protect his people. A strength that he could then pass on to others. It told Zan that what he was asking for would not come for free, a price would have to be paid. Yet Zan did not care, he had heart for the safety of his people only. He accepted the beings offer and became the first vampire.
When he returned he built up an army of vampires and managed to drive the demons away from most corners of the world, allowing the humans to develop and grow. Yet once the deed had been done there were too many vampires and nothing for them to do. Many of them stayed loyal to the humans, helping them when needed. The rest of them turned on their people, their lust for blood and death consuming them.
The ones that had remained loyal decided it was up to them to track down and kill the ones that had turned evil...but they separated, hid and multiplied to quickly for them to do any damage to the murderers. The vampires on the side of the good soon found their own numbers dropping, due to sneaky enemies mostly, but also because of the humans. The humans now had become strong and thriving in the world and they no longer trusted the vampires for protection. All vampires were considered creatures of darkness and killed and shunned for it.
One of the main vampires who turned against the humans was Karayan Kneph, his name a combination of Egyption and Armenian meaning 'Dark Spirit'. He goes by another name today when around others, yet very few know what this name is, even fewer have seen him. He is the only one left who has raised organisations and armies to attempt to bring humans into slavery and wipe out those vampires who oppose him. There have been many like him but they have all been killed. They did not have the cunning that Karayan possesses and Karayan is by far the oldest. Some claim that he is from the original village that was turned but no one knows the truth for certain.
